Action needed over graffiti

Over the last few months I have been inundated with constituents' complaints about graffiti right across the West End. I think that action is required on this important issue. I have met with officers from the Waste Management Department to look at how we can develop policies which effectively deal with the problem of graffiti. This requires joined up thinking by the council, by other statutory bodies and by companies which have assets which are vandalised.

Joined up approach to graffiti required

West End Councillor Richard McCready today called for a joined up approach to tackling graffiti from Dundee City Council and from external bodies. Councillor McCready met with the council's cleansing services manager to discuss his concerns. Dundee and the West End ward in particular seem to have been targeted in recent months for graffiti.

Councillor Richard McCready said, 'It was good to get the opportunity to discuss this important issue with officers. People in the West End and right across Dundee are fed up with the level of graffiti that there is. it is clear that we need to look for effective ways to deal with this. This means that we look at perhaps doing things differently. There is a need for every council department and all external agencies such as the police to be working together to try to prevent graffiti, and to try to to catch those responsible if acts of vandalism do take place. Graffiti blights neighbourhoods and we should not accept it. I am glad that the Local Community Planning Partnership in the West End is looking at how to deal effectively with graffiti and I look forward to the outcome of their deliberations.'
